    Picosecond Spectroscopy

    Dynamics of  π-Conjugated Molecules and their Dimers

    In the center of this project are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocycles that are of relevance in material science. We study the processes that occur in these molecules after photoexcitation. The majority of experiments are carried out in the gas phase, but complementary studies in solution are also conducted. Beside the isolated molecules we also study their dimers to better understand energy transfer processes, excimer formation and singlet fission in aggregates. The most relevant experimental method in this project is picosecond time-resolved spectroscopy. As a new detection scheme we recently established time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy using imaging detection of electrons to gain a deeper insight into the light-induced dynamics.

    Femtosecond Spectroscopy

    We carry out experiments with femtosecond time resolution in cooperation with the groups of L. Poisson (CEA Saclay bei Paris) and T. Schultz (MBI Berlin). The work was partially funded by the Laserlab Europe program gefördert. Our preferred methods are time-resolved photoionisation and photoelectron spectroscopy.
